ACORNS is my version of old time string-band music. It was mostly recorded live in my studio with a crew of my favorite people over several days. Lots of meals, jokes, laughing and libations. While I produced it and the songs are mostly mine, it was very much a collaborative effort and I think the community spirit of real time, spontaneous music making is accurately celebrated.

Primarily original stuff with 3 covers thrown into the mix. This recording was like a laboratory experiment, where I dawned my safely glasses and lab coat and flexed my studio editing/mixing chops. Lots of overdubs and musicians from remote locations. Tubas, tablas, accordions, drums and such. Plus I invited some other singers to take over the lead on a few numbers; notably Ivan Neville, Travis Book, Bo Elledge and my son, Owen.

The Growling Old Men's latest and greatest. We recoded this during two different weekend sessions in the winter of 2012-13 at the venerable Henhouse studio. A mixture of new, old and obscure material; including two each from Lowell and Winship's respective songbooks, one lively instrumental and a handful of songs that we've been performing over the past few years but hadn't recorded.

Our good friend and fishing buddy, David Thompson, also played bass on most of the tracks and added a bit of harmony. (Plus he orhestrated the CD design). We are really excited about this one.
